itchy hand

As we use our hands for many purposes, it is one part that gets exposed to a lot of foreign substances and objects. Because of this, our hands have the tendency to get very itchy. One common reason for this would be an allergic reaction we have to something our hands come in contact with. This would be anything from detergents to certain kinds of foods. There are some detergents and soaps that make the hands very dry which cause them to itch. If you are having a hard time cleaning the house with this detergent, use gloves while working or change soaps.
The changes in weather also lead to itchy hands. When the air is too dry, the skin tends to get dry easily which leads to a lot of itching. So make sure that during the cold weather you would protect your hands by putting on gloves. Make sure that you apply lotion too to make sure that the moisture is locked in your skin. When you are inside the house, make sure that you get a humidifier. During very cold weathers, a humidifier would be able to regulate the temperature in the house and help your skin maintain its balance and avoid itching. During very hot days, make sure that you apply lotions with sun protection factor of at least 15. Skin usually burns quickly during hot days. Because of that, the skin would be very sensitive and would tend to itch.
Another reason for itchy hands could be attributed to chicken skin. this is characterized with small bumps on the upper arms or other parts of the body. This is caused by skin cells that do not fall off but build up and get clogged up in the hair follicles instead, creating the bump. It is pretty normal for people with dry skin and can get quite itchy at times. To help you with this, you can use scrubs or pumice stones to rub them off. You should also use creams and soaps that have salicylic acid to counter the bumps.
Pompholyx is also another skin condition that could bring about intense itching. It is connected to sweaty palms. Then one would get swollen skin around the nails and the skin would crack. All these would lead to much itching. This is often brought about by the handling of strong detergents or substances. If you would experience this, you can dry the blisters by soaking your hand in a solution with at least 1 percent of vinegar for about 15 minutes four times a day. Then you should apply moisturizing creams to help put back the moisture into your skin.
To help you with your itchy hands, you might want to try antihistamines. This will help curb your allergies which would lead to less itching. To give you a better picture of your overall well-being, it might be good to take a skin test. It is a bit tiresome but you will be able to know what you are allergic to. That way you will be able to avoid certain foods and substances that could make your hands itchy.
